Since 1998, Virginia Concert and Opera Theatre has served the interests of college students and young emerging professionals, offering performance opportunities for roles in small venues. VCOT performs irregularly and is tuition dependant.
In 1998 and 1999, VCOT offered opera scenes in an opera workshop format, and in 2001 the company mounted a production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi along with scenes from various Mozart operas. In 2002, VCOT produced its first full length opera, Mozart’s Magic Flute. Five years later in 2007, VCOT produced Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Mozart’s The Impresario and Edwin Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos.
