Music Business, Coursework and Colleges:

As a pop or jazz artist, you will need to understand the ins and outs of the business world in which you are moving. You will also need to develop a working understanding of music technology, gear, and recording techniques. For a traditional approach, there are several respected Virginia Universities offering Music Business Management as a major. James Madison University offers a Music Business Management major and a major in Music Technology. George Mason University offers majors in Jazz Studies, and minors in Music Technology and World Music. It is worth investigating the availability of similar programs at each school you consider. It is also possible that you could take some of these courses as a non-major, if you intend to get your degree in another field of study.
